I started the association in 1995, forming a committee a few years later to start working with the people from Qala. We started the first gathering with a dinner dance to celebrate our feast of our padron Saint Joseph. Then we started the family BBQ picnic which is better known as ix-xalata tal-Qala. We continue to grow through two day tours to the border of New South Wales which we have become famous for. Now our associaion is well known in Melbourne. I would like to thank the thousands of people mainly from Qala, who expressed the unwavering support over the years and attended all our activities in there hundreds. You really made our hard work worth while, we look forward for many more years of growth and contribution to the Maltese people in Melbourne and Qala people around the world.

I have enjoyed being part of the preparations for the events we have every year and the friendships that have developed from serving on the committee. I have served on the committee as the Secretary since 1996 and been promoted to Vice President on June 2006. I have enjoyed participating in meetings on a monthly basis and helped to prepare for the events that we have held. The committee became part of the family and we are very good friends.

My wife Jane also served on the committee for a few years and she still helps when we ask.

Some of the events we have held include our annual feast for our Patron Saint Joseph, Xalata ta Qala, and a few bus trips. We occasionally have honored guests including Mons. Guzeppi Buttigieg, Fr Charles Buttigieg, Dr Raymond Xerri, The Arcipriet tal Qala Parish Rev. Kan. Dr Joe Zammit and the latest was the Arcpriest of Xaghra  Dun Karm Refelo. Once a year, we also have a barbeque at Brimbank Park for the Xalata ta Qala. Every year the committee also organizes five bus trips which involve taking a bus full of friends away for the weekend to the northern parts of Victoria.

I have enjoyed my time and involvement with people from Qala, Gozitans, Maltese and from many ethnic groups around Melbourne. My role in the committee when I started was as a member, in 1995 as one of the founding members.

The committee became part and parcel of my life and my family's.

Although my husband, Joe Mizzi is from Nadur, he dedicates plenty of time serving the committees.

As a committee member my position involves organising activites and functions during the year, such as selling dinner dance and raffle tickets and preparing food. I have been a committee member since the creation of the association in 1995 and throughout the years the association has gradually developed into one large family.

Although I was born in Kercem, I feel part of Qala more than anywhere else. This is due to the generous and welcoming character of the people of Qala. This character is reflected in the great success of the Australian Qala Association, with hard work, innovative ideas and maintaining a strong faith to our ideas we will ensure a prosperous AQA.

I would like to thank all the committee members and all the people of Qala for their support.

As a committee member, I have enjoyed my inolvement to assist in the preparation of social events organised by the AQA. Some events that I have assisted with are the annual Festa ta' San Guzepp, the annual picnic and other events that take place during the year. By being part of the committee, I have had the opportunity to meet people and have seen many friendships formed through our social events.

I was born in Rahal il-Gdid, Malta I married the late Joe Mizzi who was the first Vice President of the committee. I continue to enjoy working with the AQA and its friendly members.
